Regulatory Environment
- Bar Council of India Rule 36 bars direct or indirect advertising, solicitation, or touting by lawyers.
- A firm website with factual information (practice areas, credentials, contact details) is permitted; promotional language is not.
- The Digital Personal Data Protection Act (DPDP), notified in 2025, phases in through 2027 and will govern how client and visitor data is collected.
- Advertising more broadly is self-regulated by ASCI, whose honesty and non-misleading standard applies to any content a firm does publish.
